During Wednesday’s episode, Kishan Patel got the biggest shock of his life when Genevieve Mushaluk expectedly united Rome Cooney and Sol Yi in voting out the 28-year-old ER doctor, who she thought was powerful on her tribe. Were in position.
In an exclusive interview with The Post, Patel revealed that he had a secret alliance with Mushaluk – that’s why he was so shocked at her betrayal.
Patel also told The Post how he felt about the drama between Cooney and Yee and why he voted Ayesha Welch On last week’s episode, and much more.
New York Post: Take me back to my vote off. Where do you feel things went wrong for you specifically?
Kishan Patel:Where things went wrong, I think Genevieve just woke up and realized, ‘Hey, what’s best for my game is not to work with someone like Kishan or Tini for a long time. [Chirichillo] Because they are taking decisions in the background. At that moment he realized that his best choice was to have Rome as a shield – to keep him from taking some of the hatred.
I wasn’t trying to turn Genevieve against her colleague. Genevieve and I already had a relationship. We were very tight. The only time I cried on the island was when I shared some personal details with Genevieve. We were really close and as a trio between Tini, Genevieve and I we were really close. A lot of strategizing was already happening between the three of us. We already talked about that if there is no statue in Rome, we will vote it out. Genevieve was down for it. She was game for it. She also said this, even though she was Rome’s ‘strongest ally’. She was still strong with us.
So going back to the first vote, that’s why we went with voting out Sol or Ayesha, because we were so tight with Genevieve. We knew she would work with us to get out of Rome, whereas we never got feedback from Sol or Ayesha that they didn’t really want to get out to each other. They were so tight with each other that if we needed to go down a peg further, we would be at a standstill at that point. So it was kind of logical for us to go with Rome and Genevieve because they were powerful with Rome’s qualities and idols and Genevieve wanted to work with us.
It sounds like Genevieve realized she was the third wheel with you and Tini. Would you say that was so?
I do think so. I tried to assert myself as much as I could, like, ‘Hey, I’m so tight with you, Genevieve. I’m fed up with Teeny but I’m fed up with you. It’s the three of us.’
Three is a powerful number. Three is the number you want to get. So it was appropriate for me to be open with him. However, I think I underestimated that she was probably a little uncomfortable with how close Tini and I were. So maybe that was one thing I overlooked. I probably could have said, ‘Genevieve, it’s the two of us,’ a few more times, which might have changed things, but I didn’t think it was necessary.
The moment Rome took your vote, did that tell you you were in trouble?
Thousand percent. Like this is the moment when you’re sitting there. You are in complete shock. At that moment, I knew that this was exactly what was happening. Even though I felt like holding back, maybe it was just to discourage Sol or something, I knew from the expressions on everyone’s faces afterward. The whole time Genevieve was just saying, ‘Sorry, forgive me.’ Rome’s gaze was so contemptible [and] Had gone mad. I knew she realized I was trying to creep her out. Sol said something like, ‘I’ll explain things.’ I pieced together the expressions on people’s faces, plus they said he was stealing my vote and things were going against me.
There was a lot of tension between Seoul and Rome. What do you mean by their mobility?
He has an elder brother, younger brother is dynamic. They could never get together. From the beginning they were immediately on opposite sides of the spectrum. Even in terms of their energy. So it was very controversial from the beginning and it remains controversial. And I think that created a really clear divide that created a nice middle ground for Tini and me in the beginning. When you have two polarizing sides, you can easily fall into the middle. But I think it all just came down to having very philosophical different viewpoints on how to play the game. This means that Rome wants to be a little more anarchic, Soul is a little more thoughtful and restrained and is never able to go beyond that.
Is Rome and the way he is behaving the real Rome? Or is it Rome who knows he’s on television?
This is Rome who knows he is on television. I personally think there are aspects of it that are part of Rome. There is a lot of energy in Rome. He has a lot of positive energy, but in general he has a great personality. Which again is fine in the real world when you’re having drinks on a Friday and just hanging out for an hour or two. When you’re there 24/7 and playing a game and you know the cameras are on you, it’s very different.
I think the biggest thing that bothered me was that I went on ‘Survivor’ to entertain and just have the experience, not to be dramatic. My intention was not to do something just with the intention of making it come across a certain way on TV. But I think for Rome, a lot of it was bucket list for TV. Like fishing. I remember there was a quote in one episode like ‘How many fish did Ozzy catch? What is the record? I’m going to catch another one from him. It’s just to get things across. And I think that troubled me and it troubled a lot of people in our tribe.
you arrive at ponderosa After you’re voted out and you see Ayesha. What was that conversation like?
As soon as I reach there, the first thing I hear from someone is that Ayesha says, ‘You have a lot to explain.’ I think the whole encounter was very therapeutic for both of us. I think it’s a little more therapeutic for him because he’s been locked up. She was able to understand our reasoning. I was able to speak for the group on why we voted for him. She was able to understand why this happened. So Ayesha was able to get that closure right away.
