Gigafactories in India and UK
Egretas is setting up advanced manufacturing plants in both India and the UK. According to Tata Sons' 106th annual report, the company plans to build a 40 GWh Gigafactory in the UK and a 20 GWh facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The UK Gigafactory, located at the Gravity Smart Campus near Bridgwater in Somerset, will provide about half of the battery manufacturing capacity needed for the UK automotive sector by the early 2030s.
In India, the Sanand plant is expected to play a key role in supporting the country's growing EV ecosystem, providing batteries for two-wheelers, commercial vehicles and energy storage.
Supporting Tata's automotive ambitions
Agratas is initially designing and manufacturing batteries for Tata Group companies, including Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Tata Motors. The company's batteries will power both luxury and mass-market electric vehicles, adding to Tata's automotive portfolio in the electric mobility space. In the future, Agratas plans to expand its offerings to a wide range of vehicles and energy storage solutions.
Collaboration and community initiatives in the U.K.
Agratas is also fostering collaboration with local partners in the UK to support the Gigafactory's operations and community engagement. Partnerships with Somerset Council, Bridgwater and Taunton College and Gravity Smart Campus are helping to create education and training programmes tailored to the needs of the emerging clean energy sector.
