A speeding Tesla crashed into a bed of rock on a Westchester County road Tuesday morning and burst into flames, killing two people inside, authorities said.

Pelham Manor Fire Chief Michael Greco said the driver and his passenger were pronounced dead after the flames were extinguished. His identity was not revealed on Tuesday night.
While it took about 20 minutes to extinguish the fire, firefighters remained on the scene for hours to remove bodies and secure lithium-ion batteries scattered on the road.
“We heard the popping and we saw it was a Tesla, so we knew the battery had gone bad and there was a fire,” Greco told The Post.

“We heard a bang and we ran to the garage and the next thing we saw, we saw the car burning against the wall,” Chris Ganpat, owner of Manor Auto Service Center, told the station.
“I was very worried for the people inside, it’s Christmas time and I feel very bad for their families at the moment,” he said.
The cause of the accident has not been determined.
