Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, became upset during a House hearing on Wednesday, leading to her ranting about how white men have never been oppressed in the United States.
During the House Oversight Committee hearing “Abolish the DEI Act”, Which seeks to weaken diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, Crockett responded to a Republican colleague by calling the bill “a strong response to the oppression of our rights, freedoms and liberties.”

“You kept saying the word ‘harassment’ over and over again, and every time you said it, it was almost like I was hearing nails on a chalkboard, because it seems like you don’t understand the definition of ‘harassment’ ” And I would ask you to just refer to Google for your help. Harassment is cruel or unjust treatment or control over a long period of time. That is the definition of harassment,” she said. “And so, as I sit here as a black woman practicing civil rights, I want to tell you the reason my colleagues wanted to make sure you understood the same black history that your side is teaching in classrooms. Because then you can misuse words like ‘harassment’.”
Crockett argued that white people in the United States did not face oppression because they were not forced from their land and sent to a foreign country as slaves.
“There has been no oppression of the white man in this country. You tell me which white people were dragged out of their homes. You tell me which one of them dragged you across the ocean and said ‘You’re going to work.’ We are going to steal your wives. We are going to rape your wives. It did not happen. This is harassment,” Crockett said.
“We didn’t ask to be here. We are not the same immigrants that you all constantly encounter. We did not run away from home. We were stolen. So yes, we will sit here and be offended when you want to sit here and behave like this… and don’t let it slip away from you that white people on this side of the aisle are telling us, people of color on this side of the aisle On the side that you are all being oppressed, that you are all being harmed. This is not the definition of harassment. You tell me how long, cruel or unjust your treatment has been and we can talk.”
Crockett pointed out how white men make up only 30% of the country’s population, but hold more than 60% of elected offices.
“I can’t even tell you how many white people have served in this chamber. But I can tell you that I am only the 55th Black woman to be elected to Congress. And so when you want to talk about history and pretend like it was a long time ago, it’s not,” she said. “Because again, I’m only number 55.”
He concluded his remarks by claiming “with the companies” more diverse workforce “They are more likely to outperform their competitors.”
“Diversity works, and until you can show me the data that says otherwise, I think we need to be a country that listens to the experts and tunes out our emotions and re-believes That racism is real in this country, and until we stop pretending it isn’t, we won’t solve the problems we continue to face. And that will bring the real unity we seek when we seek a more perfect union,” she said.
