The second Ted to compete for Texas Senate is seeking one Mysterious Pop-Up Super PAC Stop destroying mailers and campaign ads supporting him, including ads calling current Senator Ted Cruz an “idiot” and a “spineless fool.”
Liberal Texas Senate candidate Ted Brown specifically criticized the Save Western Culture PAC for distorting some of his views on immigration and expressed disappointment that his name was being put on ads he had not approved.
“The problem is that they are misrepresenting my message. And I don’t want people to think I’m one of these right-wing anti-immigrant people, when I’m not,” Brown told The Post.
He said, “I don’t want them to think I play hit pieces for people on TV.” “I’m a very humble person.”
Save Western Culture PAC has emerged as a late-stage player in at least a dozen competitive House races as well as Senate contests in Texas and Maryland, often supporting what some consider spoiler candidates. .
The group registered with the Federal Election Commission on October 11, ensuring that its donor information would remain secret until Election Day.
So far, Save Western Culture has spent more than $1 million to help promote liberal candidates in tough races, available evidence indicates. GOP activists suspect left-leaning groups are behind the PAC.
Based on flyers and ads seen by The Post, Save Western Culture has generally worked to portray Libertarian candidates as more Trump-aligned than Republican candidates in tight races.
When the Post first attempted to contact Save Western Culture PAC, the number listed on the FEC form was inactive.
Brown was also unable to contact the PAC but passed along the message he sent to The Post.
“This is Ted Brown, the Senate candidate you are ‘helping’ with your independent expenditure ads,” his message to the PAC read in part. “It’s not really something I want my name on. I don’t know what else you have, and I know you can’t coordinate with a candidate, but I don’t like aggressive advertising.
In recent days, Brown says he has received some backlash from voters who were dissatisfied with some of the ads released by the PAC in his name.
One flyer sent complained that “the border is filled with illegals and criminals” and taunted the current Cruz, suggesting he needed to “man up.”
The angry Texan emailed Brown photos of an ad appearing on the Weather Channel from his Roku device, calling it “really tasteless” and “one of the most disturbing commercials I’ve ever seen in my lifetime.”
The spot similarly went after Cruz’s masculinity, calling him the “Cooked King” and criticizing the Lone Star State senator over his infamous trip to “Cuck Coon,” a play on Cancún as Texas braces for a cold snap in 2021 , resulting in massive power outages. , It further suggested that Cruise’s wife Heidi might think he was a “crooked soy boy”.
A text blast backed by the PAC described Brown as a “conservative libertarian”.
“The Texas way of life is at risk. The awakened mob is destroying us while illegal people are crossing our border. “Senator Ted Cruz supported a plan that would have allowed more than 11 million illegal people to remain in the United States,” the text claimed.
“Ted Brown is running for Senate and he’s excited. He would end the immigration invasion with free-market solutions.
Cruz is perhaps Democrats’ No. 1 Senate target this cycle because his seat is seen as the most competitive among incumbent Republicans. He faces stiff competition from Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas).
The Post contacted both the Cruz and Allred campaigns for comment.
“I wouldn’t call it cheating. I mean, all’s fair in love and war. It’s like Politics 101 – try to suppress the other person’s vote,” Brown reflected. “If they’re sending something with my name on it, I want it to reflect my views.”
Still, at this stage, Brown doesn’t expect to take legal action against the mysterious super PAC.
Brown also dismissed concerns that he would act as an obstructionist in the Senate race.
“They always say that about Liberals and Green candidates,” he said. “You can’t spoil something that’s already rotten.”
Maryland Senate candidate Larry Hogan’s team railed against Save Western Culture PAC’s interference in that race, with a spokesperson insisting that “lying to voters while asking for their trust is an affront to our most sacred democratic processes.” It’s a slap.”
This week, The Post obtained audio of a phone banker associated with the PAC, exposing his actions against Hogan.
“Lockdown Larry said Biden won the 2020 election, closed our jobs and our schools, called President Trump abusive and unacceptable, and said conservative values are absurd and dangerous,” the call said.
Notably, the candidate the PAC is endorsing in that race — Libertarian Mike Scott — has similarly told The Post that he has no affiliation with the group. Additionally, Scott has been a staunch critic of former President Donald Trump.
In Iowa District 1, Representative Marianette Miller-Meeks (R) was hit with ads from a group she criticized for supporting legislation that favors Muslim countries.
A flyer from the group said, “Marionette Miller-Meeks thinks our tax dollars should be sent to the Islamic State.”
cook political report Rates the seat as a Republican toss-up.
“Rino Marianette Miller-Meeks supported using our tax dollars to provide arms to an Islamic State, to provide arms to a Muslim nation. “American leaders must fight to stop the spread of Islam and stop Sharia law,” a text blast from the PAC read.
“Each election cycle, national Democrats establish dark-money groups designed to mislead voters and promote third-party candidates,” Mike Berg, communications director for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, previously told The Post. Who have no chance of winning.”
“That’s pretty much what it appears to be, and voters should reject this fraudulent strategy.”
