According to Thai government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke, people coming from India and Taiwan can stay in Thailand for up to 30 days. He said India has emerged as the fourth largest source market for Thailand. About 12 lakh tourists from India have gone to Thailand this year. Before India, the three largest tourist source countries for Thailand are Malaysia, China and South Korea.
Compensating for lower exports
According to Reuters, tourist flows from India to Thailand are strong. Airlines and hospitality chains are also targeting this market. The government’s target is that 2.8 crore tourists should come to the country this year. It is expected that this boom in the tourism sector will compensate for the losses caused by the continued weak exports. Therefore, Thailand wants to attract more tourists by further relaxing the visa requirements.
