The Police ended their hugely successful career in the mid-’80s with the fan favorite Synchronicity. Four decades later, the album was re-released, and it’s become a chart win all over again for the group.
This week, Synchronicity returns to one Billboard chart and debuts on two others in America. The set has become a bestseller once more, as thousands picked up a copy of the newly-expanded edition of the set.
Synchronicity lands on the Top Album Sales chart for the first time ever this frame. The title opens at No. 19 on the list of the bestselling full-lengths and EPs in the U.S., regardless of genre or format.
In the past tracking week, Synchronicity sold a little more than 4,800 copies. That’s a massive increase from the period prior, when there wasn’t a special reason for fans of the English rockers to purchase the title.
The week before The Police re-released Synchronicity, the set sold a little more than 100 copies throughout the U.S. That means the title experienced a more than 4,200% increase in pure purchases, from one frame to the next.
Synchronicity marks The Police’s tenth project to hit the Top Album Sales chart. The band hasn’t been away from the list for very long, even though they haven’t produced new music in many years. Instead, several compilations and live recordings from the group have reached the list this decade alone.
The Police claim the seventh-loftiest debut on the Top Album Sales list this week. The legendary rock outfit lands behind more contemporary names like Ghost, Ice Spice, Forrest Frank, and even the soundtrack that accompanies the movie Deadpool & Wolverine.
