Oh!
“The Simpsons” is creating a Springfield version of the Christmas special, now streaming on Disney+.
“O Come All Ye Faithful” is a special double episode based on British mentalist Derren Brown’s visit to Springfield. Events soon descend into chaos, with Homer being hypnotized into believing he is Santa. It is also released on the 35th anniversary of the original Christmas special, “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”, which first aired in 1989.
“2023 was very difficult for me,” show writer Caroline Omine told The Post.
The Emmy winner said she came up with the idea for the episode because during that time, “I watched a lot of YouTube, and I watched a lot of Derren Brown… That was exactly what I needed, where it was something very entertaining and light-hearted.” Light, but there was always something deep underneath it. And it was always making a human point, and it was touching and instructive.
since the show happened a deep bench of regular peopleHe said that the side characters who get prominence in episodes like this Christmas special feel absolutely natural.
“When we took this decision [Homer as Santa] There would be an elf and that would be Ralph, we weren’t thinking like, ‘Those two don’t really belong together, let’s mix them up.’ But then we realized, ‘Wow, these two never actually became a couple.’ So we enjoy it because we’re doing it.”
He added, “I feel like if we did that, ‘What’s a couple we haven’t made?’ And then we just come up with the story, you just come up with a story, and it’s great, we have such rich backgrounds. We can stick them anywhere.”
“The Simpsons” has also often been credited “predicting” the future several times – Amidst pop culture events, its predictably anticipated smartwatch, trump presidencyFIFA scandal and more.
Showrunner Matt Selman told The Post, “People really want the magic to be real, right?”
He joked that they use a cauldron with herbs to predict the future and do “witch and wizard things”.
“We never try to predict anything. We wouldn’t say anything on the show like, ‘Hey, here’s a prediction, everybody,'” he explained.
“It’s just that the world we talk about is full of fools. And dumb people do the same stupid things again and again.”
He joked, “People want it to be like, ‘Oh, there’s this amazing laser that beams into crystals… and then we all meditate and then we pray. Then we’re all in sweat the next morning. We wake up soaked and we know what’s going to happen. This is it!”
Omine said that one reason the show sometimes “predicts” the future is the sheer amount of episodes, which currently stands at over 700.
“We’ve done a lot of episodes, and a lot of things we predicted didn’t come true,” he explained.
“I think we try, whenever we put out any kind of facts, we try to be very accurate. Sometimes it’s just luck.”
He added, “If we could actually predict the future we would all be much richer than we are today!”
