Kim Young-dae, Shin Min-A, Han Ji-hyun and Lee Sang-yi star in ‘No Gain No Love.’
Shin Min-A, Kim Young-dae, Lee Sang-yi and Han Ji-hyun attended a press conference in Seoul to discuss their upcoming drama No Gain No Love. While each of the cast members had their own reasons for joining the rom-com, quite a few of those reasons had to do with Shin Min-A, who has been referred to as a rom-com queen. Director Kim Jung-sik very much wanted Shin Min-A to play Son Hae-young, a woman who does not like to lose, because “she was the only one who could portray Hae-young.”
Kim Young-dae said he took the role of convenience store worker Ji-uk because it offered an opportunity to work with Shin. “I didn’t think twice and signed on immediately,” he said. “Since I first met Shin Min-A, I have been so nervous. I have enjoyed her work since I was in high school. She’s so famous and beautiful.”
Co-star Han Ji-hyun echoed these sentiments saying, “I was so excited and happy about being able to meet Shin Min-A. She’s my ideal type. It was such a beautiful dream to be able to see her and act with her, after only being able to see her on TV before.”
Shin described the script for the drama as “fun, honest, and cheeky.” Her character doesn’t hold back when confronted and is not above unleashing a few expletives.
“I was surprised at how fun Shin Min-A is,” said the director. “You’re going to be shocked. You’ll be able to see a different side of her.”
Shin’s character Hae-young is so set on winning that she becomes entangled with Ji-uk, someone who in many ways is her complete opposite.
Opposites attract in thew new romcom ‘No Gain No Love.’
“Hae-yeong is calculative and thinks about whether something will result in a loss to her,” said Shin. “She has her own set of rules, she’s smart, and assertive.”
“Ji-uk is a part-timer at a convenience store,” said Kim. “He’s the opposite of Hae-yeong in that he doesn’t want to cause harm to others even if he incurs a loss.”
Hae-young and Ji-uk are not the only romantic pairing of opposites. Lee Sang-yi’s character, Gyu-hyun, is the CEO of Kkulbee Education and he doesn’t believe in love due to the relationship between his parents. He wants to stay single. Han Ji-hyun plays Ja-yeon, a woman who has never dated and writes R-rated web novels.
“The characters are really diverse,” said director Kim Jung-sik. “The office romance between Ji-uk who doesn’t want to cause harm and Hae-yeong who doesn’t want to experience any loss. There’s also the love story between third-generation chaebol Gyu-hyun who doesn’t have any love cells and Ja-yeon who has been single her whole life, but is great at writing love stories”
According to Lee Sang-yi the drama offers love stories that viewers haven’t seen before.
“There are a lot of fun and different kinds of relationships such as those who are dating, married, family, siblings, etc,” said Lee. “It’s fun seeing how these relationships change. You can see a lot of different types of love. Please look forward to it.”
Hae-young’s desire to win at all costs leads her to make a fake wedding proposal and the situation gets even crazier when Ji-uk accepts. .
“The fake wedding and office romance between my character and Kim Young-dae’s is something to look out for,” said Shin. “Lee Sang-yi and Han Ji-hyun’s love story is really fun too.”
Shin Min-A appeared in the hit k-dramas Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha and Our Blues. She can also be seen this year in the drama Karma. Kim Young-dae can currently also be seen in Perfect Family, and previously appeared in Moon In The Day, Shooting Stars, Penthouse and Extraordinary You. Lee Sang-yi previously appeared in My Demon and Crash Landing On You. Han Ji-hyun appeared in all three seasons of The Penthouse. Director Kim Jung-sik previously directed Strong Girl Nam Soon and Work Later, Drink Now. The tvN drama is written by Kim Hye-young, who wrote the script for Her Private Life. No Gain No Love premieres on Prime Video on Aug. 26.
