The Voice Australia coaches reveal sneak peek at new season: ‘It’s a good energy’

One of Australia’s favourite singing competitions, The Voice, is set to make its return to TV, with a fresh batch of show-stopping singers.

Sole returning coach, Guy Sebastian will be joined by superstars LeAnn Rimes, Adam Lambert and Kate Miller-Heidke, with all of them working tirelessly to find the next Voice.

All four of this year’s coaches sat down with 7NEWS.com.au ahead of the new season and revealed their various secrets to surviving the long days of shooting.

“Sugar … lots of sugar!” Adam teases, along with energy drinks and lots of coffee.

“Look, I’m energised by the people I work with, if I’m being honest,” Guy says.

“There are times in my life where I haven’t had as much and it’s a bit of a struggle, but I look forward to seeing these guys when I’m on set, genuinely.”

For the singer originally from South Australia, it also depends on the artists in the teams — and according to Guy, this year is off the charts.

“If they’re not good singers, it’s so boring, but they’re really good singers this year.”

“It’s just the adrenaline of the show,” LeAnne adds.

“There’s so much stimulation, by the way, like on set there are all the sounds and the lights. It’s a constant energy, and it’s a good energy.”

Along with unearthing new talent, the coaches find energy from the “friendly competition” between the four of them.

Joking about the rivalry, Kate notes: “There’s a whole show behind the scenes.”

Meanwhile, Adam compares the challenge to “when you get together with your friends and you play a board game”.

“It’s a friendly competition, I think we’re having a good time with it,” he says.

While the competition is one thing, all four coaches have a strong love for their craft and using their experience to help develop an emerging artist’s career.

For Guy, who rose to fame on Australian Idol and recently marked 20 years in the music industry, he believes that it is currently “the toughest time for artists to actually turn (music) into a viable career”.

“So, you know, being part of a show that actually gives them a platform to then be able to kick some goals and use that opportunity, I think, is really unique.

“It’s also a positive place. That’s the thing I love most about it.”

LeAnne, who is coaching for the first time, says it “feels nice to pass some of that knowledge and wisdom that I’ve gained … to these new artists.

“I knew I was going to enjoy mentoring, but I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I have.”

“You really get to know these people as human beings, and everybody’s so unique and different, and it tests you as a coach.”

Adam agrees, describing mentoring as “really gratifying”.

“I like being of some help if I can, and just, you know, being honest with them and encouraging, and it’s, it’s like a really satisfying process.”

Kate, who is an award-winning singer-songwriter, says singing is “something I’ve been obsessed with for my whole life”.

“So going into the mentoring, I feel like I can kind of sense what’s going to be useful information for them.

“It’s so much fun, like getting under the bonnet twiddlings and nods and some of these, so to speak, some of these singers are quite green.

“You know, some of them have literally never set foot on stage before, and they’ve decided to make their debut on the most intimidating stage in the country.”

The Voice Australia is coming to Channel 7 and 7plus in August.
