One of the most dangerous parts of air travel is the possibility of getting kicked off your flight – and some airlines tend to be more pushy than others.
A study from a travel site advanced marks Turns out Frontier Airlines is most likely to snag passengers, far ahead of the other major airlines. Travel + Vacation Reported,
Bumping, or denied boarding, occurs when airlines overbook a flight and there are more passengers on the plane than available seats.
The study found that low-cost carriers unexpectedly jumped by 3.21 passengers per 10,000 from early 2023 to 2024 — 400% more than any other U.S. airline.
“Few travel experiences are more frustrating than being kicked off a flight after purchasing a ticket. Yet this happens so often because airlines routinely sell more tickets than they have available seats in anticipation of no-shows, Kerry Stooksbury, editor-in-chief of Upgraded Points, said in a statement to T+L.
“We studied this industry practice to give passengers an idea of which carriers are most likely to have this problem.”
American Airlines came in second after Frontier with an increase of 0.6 per 10,000 people, and Spirit Airlines had the third-highest passenger growth with a rate of 0.43 per 10,000 passengers.
The airlines with the lowest number of involuntarily denied boardings were Delta Air Lines and Allegiant Air, both of which had zero detentions.
However, Delta had the highest number of voluntary boardings at 7.49 per 10,000 passengers.
While airlines offer passengers willing to give up their seats on overbooked flights a form of compensation — whether it's cash or a flight upgrade — the study found that the amount travelers are willing to accept for missing their scheduled flight varies. -Varies in different states. Tell.
In Arkansas, travelers will agree to an average minimum of $382, while in California travelers will only agree to much more – $832.
