It’s a fear that all parents face at one point or another – a screaming child in public.
From throwing tantrums on the shop floor to throwing tantrums over food, they refuse to eat at restaurants.
Many parents simply remove the child from the environment for a minute – but many do not.
‘Impossible to hear’
A mother reported this week that she attended her son’s Christmas play, but there wasn’t much silence.
“In 75% of them, there were two kids who were screaming and crying,” she told an online parenting group.
“It made it impossible to hear what the kids were saying, and it essentially ruined the whole thing.”
In total there were 120 children performing, all having to compete with sad babies.
The mother said, “I am very sensitive to the children because they have worked very hard to silence the children’s cries, to silence them.”
“Incredibly selfish”
She asked whether it was reasonable to expect that parents would have left the room with their children.
Many people agreed with him…
“How unfair, all the kids worked hard the whole time and no one could listen to them!” A parent said.
“Teachers should have asked them to leave,” said another.
Some people felt so strongly that they knew what they would have done.
“I have a child and in this situation I would have 100% left the room!” This is what the mother claimed.
Others shared horror stories from their school play.
“Exactly the same thing happened with us. My child’s lines were drowned out in both performances,” shared one mother.
In the end, there was this debacle: “A woman in the third row stood up three or four times to film my kid’s Christmas game on her phone. It blocked it for a lot of people. This was incredibly selfish.
