Thor’s Day returns, though it looks like thunder, lightning and rain are still a few days away, more’s the pity. It’s hot outside! The earth needs a good rainshower to cool off.
In any case, Thursday means that yesterday was Wordle Wednesday and I handed out a riddle for you fine Wordlers to solve on top of the daily Wordle. Now I’ll give you the solution.
Here’s the riddle: An apple is 40 cents, a banana is 60 cents and a grapefruit is 80 cents. How much is a lime?
The answer: 40 cents. This is because each fruit’s cost is determined by the number of vowels in each word, with each vowel valued at 20 cents. You can infer this from the words themselves—and many of you did. Kudos to everyone who solved this!

Goodness gracious great balls of fire! For the second day in a row, I’ve gotten the Wordle in just two guesses. I’m not sure I’ve ever managed that before. I’m having a very lucky week. I should probably go buy a lottery ticket!
In any case, FLARE just sort of popped into my head (after trying to make a word start with LA and coming up with LAIRS and LAKES, neither of which felt right). At this point, I figured ‘A’ could be a likely starting word, and as luck would have it, I’d just been reading from a novel where they talk about druids chewing on acorns for their magical properties (it’s a long story) and so that word just happened to still be fresh on my mind. I also used to think acorns were the coolest thing and loved finding them in the forest as a child. In any case, that was the Wordle. Huzzah for the magnificent ACORN!

In a repeat of yesterday, I once again get 2 points for guessing in two and 1 point for beating the Bot who took three tries today. 3 points for me! Can I repeat this on 2XP Friday tomorrow? I doubt it!
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “acorn” comes from Old English “æcern,” meaning “fruit” or “nut.” It originates from the Proto-Germanic “*akraną,” which referred to any fruit or yield of the land. Over time, the meaning narrowed to specifically denote the oak tree’s nut.
