It’s hard to believe that it has already been two weeks since Paris gave a flying start to the Olympics with a star-studded opening ceremony which included breathtaking and dazzling performances from Céline Dion, Lady Gaga and many more incredible moments filled with emotions. Artistic director of Paris 2024 Thomas Jolly and his team, had teased a huge closing ceremony at the Stade de France, and it did not disappoint.
The athlete’s parade was a gorgeous moment of celebration and unity between them and the public. The closing ceremony served as a symbolic link between Paris and the next Olympic Games that will take place in L.A. French bands Phoenix and Air joined in the celebrations, French singer Yseult gave a powerful rendition of “My Way”, and Billie Eilish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snoop Dog celebrated the passing of the torch at Venice Beach in Los Angeles.
However, the name on everyone’s lips tonight was of course, Tom Cruise. The actor attended the opening ceremony July 26th, and was also seen attending a few competitions, including the women’s football final.
The Hollywood movie star has become a master in the art of performing his own mind-blowing, death-defying stunts. He was spotted in April riding a motorcycle in the streets of Paris, and before that, he was also seen preparing a stunt on the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles. The rumor that Cruise would probably be involved in the closing ceremony was spreading last week, and it was quickly confirmed that he would indeed be involved in a stunt sequence.
After two hours of celebrations at the Stade de France, the first notes of the Mission: Impossible theme song resonated in the stadium, and Tom Cruise appeared on its roof. When he landed on the floor, he ran across the athletes and saluted them. He then quickly jumped on a motorcycle hidden behind the stage, with the Olympic flag at the back of it. He drove off, rode across the city, took a plane to the iconic Hollywood sign, and hanged the flag to it. The Olympic circles are now one with the legendary Hollywood sign.
The actor immediately took to Twitter to share a photo of himself on the roof of the stadium, with a simple, symbolic caption, “Thank you, Paris! Now off to LA”
