lose your luggage This is one of the most dreaded parts of traveling – but tracking down a lost bag can be easy.
Many travelers have already started carrying tracking devices in their bags so they can track their location themselves.
But airports often don’t want to know what the trackers say, or they can’t do anything with the information.
However, travelers using Apple AirTags may soon be able to provide third parties with access to tracking information. This will allow airports and airlines to search for lost bags in real time.
According to reports For those who have seen the beta version, Apple’s new iOS 18.2 operating system will have a new third-party sharing option.
Screenshots posted on the MacRumors forum show that the new feature on the Find My app will allow users to share the location of a lost item with “an airline or trusted individual.”
Selecting the “Share Item Location” option will generate a link that will allow someone to view the item’s location for a limited time.
The report states that shared links will stop working when the item is returned to you or the link-sharing date expires. The shared link will expire after a week, and the user can see how many people have visited the link.
It can also be opened on non-Apple devices, so someone without an iPhone or Mac — like an airline desk or call center staff member — can help you find your lost item.
Additionally, the user can select “Show contact information” which will allow any phone or tablet to connect to the lost item and open a website with more information about it. This will allow others to contact the owner of the issue via phone number or email address.
