Traffic warning around Rod Laver ahead of Olivia Rodrigo’s first Australian show in Melbourne


An urgent warning has been issued for fans headed to Olivia Rodrigo melbourne Concerts and also for those who will be in the vicinity of the stadium in the next few days.

On Wednesday, the Department of Transportation warned of possible traffic gridlock in the area outside Rod Laver Arena during four nights of performances by the Grammy winner.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area on Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday and Monday nights.

Concert goers should also prepare for crowded trains, trams and buses and check public transportation apps for the best options.

Wednesday morning, sunrise Reporter Andrew McCormack met some dedicated fans outside the venue and reported that about 200 fans were waiting for the show.

Some fans, both local and interstate, camped around the ground for several days to get as close as possible.

The video shows tents set up in corridors in makeshift camps around the grounds.

The display of devotion from fans comes days after Rodrigo was spotted on the streets of Collingwood in Melbourne ahead of his concert.

One fan was lucky enough to see him at Collingwood.

TikTok user Bianca Camiolo spotted the singer and contacted her to ask for advice for an aspiring artist — she then shared the encounter on the social media platform.

“Oh, my God! Just make stuff every day, keep doing it until you have good quality,” the US star told Camiello.

The singer kept it casual with a New York Yankees baseball cap, gray coat, white sweater and black jeans with black Converse.

Fans praised the video a lot.

“The most genuine person I’ve ever known, so humble and down to earth,” one fan said.

Another wrote: “You are so lucky!”

“Oh my god, he’s out here somewhere,” another fan said.

Rodrigo will perform at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday and Monday, before taking the stage at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on 17, 18, 21 and 22 October.

The tour will be Rodrigo’s first show, with New Zealand singer Benny, best known for her hit Supalonely, set to join the star as the opening act in Australia.

Rodrigo first became known for starring in Disney’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, but rose to fame in 2021 following the release of his debut single Driver’s License, which topped the US Billboard Hot 100.

They released their debut album, SOUR, at the end of the same year and was named Entertainer of the Year by Time Magazine. Their second album, GUTS, followed in 2023, which again topped charts in the US, Australia and around the world.
