The gunman reportedly Attempt made to assassinate former President Donald Trump While he was playing golf, he has been ordered held without bail until his trial.
Ryan Wesley Routh appeared for a three-hour hearing in federal court in West Palm Beach, Florida on Monday morning — where Judge Ryan McCabe sided with prosecutors and ruled that Routh should remain behind bars until a trial on weapons charges.
On Monday, prosecutors released a letter in which he reportedly said He admitted he was going to try to kill the 2024 Republican presidential nominee and encouraged others to attempt to assassinate Trump.
Routh, 58, was arrested Sept. 15 after a Secret Service agent spotted the barrel of an SKS assault rifle poking out from among bushes outside the Trump International Golf Club last Sunday.
Prosecutors say the agent opened fire on Trump before the assassin could shoot him.
Routh, Joe Lives in HawaiiHe threw the gun and fled the scene, leaving behind several pieces of evidence, including two backpacks and a GoPro camera. He was caught and arrested 40 minutes later.
Federal authorities asked the judge to remand Routh, arguing he was too dangerous to be allowed to remain free.

“I have done my best and used all my might,” the letter read. “It is now up to you to complete the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whoever can do it.”
The note was placed in a box that also contained “ammunition, a metal pipe, miscellaneous building materials, tools, four phones” and other letters. The container was left at the home of an unidentified man—who turned the contents over to investigators after Routh's arrest.
Ruth He is accused of illegally possessing a gun as a convicted felon and for possessing a firearm that had its serial number obliterated. If convicted on the first count, he could face up to 15 years in prison.
Routh has been convicted twice before in North Carolina, including in 2002 of possessing a weapon of mass destruction. Caught with bomb during police encounter and a 2010 conviction for multiple counts of possession of stolen goods.
