President-elect Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, revealed Wednesday that he wants congressional funding to support the largest deportation campaign in history and 100,000 beds for migrants.
“We need Congress to give us some money to get this done,” Homan told CNN’s Kaitlyn Collins on “The Source.” He said he did not know “what the budget is” and so was not sure how many migrants would be leaving. Be deported.
Noting that since Trump is not in office yet, he does not have full access to the data, he said, “I don’t know how much resources I have, I don’t know how much money I have to buy a bed.” , I don’t know how much money I would need to buy the transportation contract.”
Homan argued that the American people voted for more funding for deportations after Trump was elected to office and that Congress should pass additional funding through reconciliation.
“We need at least 100,000 beds,” he said, adding that the more deportation offers he receives, the more migrants the Trump administration can detain and deport.
“ICE offices throughout the county will be on the streets on the first day,” he said.
The military will also be asked to provide aircraft to transport migrants back across the border, Homan said — but the migrants will not be arrested.
Homan said the operation would be “expensive”, at least $86 billion, but argued that it would ultimately save tax money because immigrants are no longer receiving federal aid.
“We want to arrest as many people as possible who are in the country illegally,” Homan said. He said he didn’t have a specific number in mind.
Trump has vowed to carry out the largest deportations in US history from the first day of his presidency on January 20, and has threatened countries Pledge not to do “business” With them if they refuse to accept their citizens back into their countries.
