MILWAUKEE — Donald Trump will bring on stage the fire helmet and jacket of Corey Comperatore during his speech to the Republican National Committee, The Post has confirmed — honoring the supporter murdered Saturday during the assassination attempt on the former president.
Comperatore, who was the former chief of the Buffalo Township, was fatally struck by gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20 — while the 78-year-old Republican candidate’s ear was grazed with a bullet.
A source told The Post ahead of Trump’s nomination acceptance speech that the ex-president wasn’t allowing guests back stage ahead of his speech because of a “reveal” that was in the works.
Trump is expected to speak just after 9 p.m. local time — or 10 p.m. eastern — though many speakers have appeared later than anticipated.
The former president has appeared in public with a bandage over his right ear since he was wounded in the attack.
Widow Helen Comperatore told The Post that her husband heroically shouted “get down!” and used his body to shield his family from the gunfire in his final moments.
President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have referred to Comperatore as a “hero” in remarks this week.
