President-elect Donald Trump announced Saturday that he has appointed “The Apprentice” creator Mark Burnett to serve as a top diplomat to the United Kingdom.
“It is my great honor to appoint Mark Burnett as Special Envoy to the United Kingdom,” Trump posted. His Truth Social Media Platform.
“With a distinguished career in television production and business, Mark brings a unique blend of diplomatic skills and international recognition to this important role.”
The London-born, British-American TV producer created NBC’s hit series “The Apprentice,” of which Trump served as host for 10 seasons. Winner of 13 Emmy Awards, Burnett has also produced “Survivor,” “Shark Tank,” “The Voice” and other major television shows.
“Mark will work to enhance diplomatic relations focusing on areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment opportunities and cultural exchanges. Congratulations Mark!” Trump said.
Earlier this month, Trump nominated billionaire Warren Stevens to serve as US Ambassador to the United Kingdom. No one is currently serving as a US special envoy to the UK.
It was not clear Saturday whether the special envoy post would require Senate confirmation.
