Former President Donald Trump’s X account posted for the first time Monday in nearly a year, breaking a hiatus from the platform that first began after his suspension post the Jan. 6 riot in 2021 – just in time for his interview with Elon Musk on the platform.
The post features a 2 minute, 31 second long ad overlaid with Trump’s speeches promising to protect Americans and the country while highlighting Trump’s time in the White House – and after, including when his Mar-a-Lago home was raided by the FBI and him being indicted.
“I never thought anything like this could happen in America. The only crime I have committed is to fearlessly defend our nation from those who seek to destroy it,” Trump says in the ad in a clip from when the former president spoke out about his arraignment relating to the “hush money” case in New York City.
The video is filled with clips of Trump supporters and the former president at the White House with former First Lady Melania Trump. It does not include any mention of his opponent Kamala Harris nor anything about the Democratic Party.
He then posted several more times within one hour.
“Are you better off now than you were when I was president? Our economy is shattered. Our border has been erased. We’re a nation in decline. Make the American Dream AFFORDABLE again. Make America SAFE again. Make America GREAT Again!” Trump wrote.
Another post had information about the interview Trump will have with Musk on X and yet another post was a video of him walking down the hallway with an overlay of Trump’s promises for America, like demolishing the “deep state.”
The last time Trump’s account posted on X was in August of 2023. The post was a picture of his mugshot which he got after he was indicted in Georgia’s racketeering case.
Trump’s return to the platform comes as he’s set to do an interview with Elon Musk on Monday night at 8 p.m. ET.
Musk announced that the interview will be “unscripted with no limits on subject matter” and asked his followers on X to submit questions ahead of time.
The 45th president was banned from X – then known as Twitter – after posting tweets the company viewed as potentially meant to “incite violence.”
The two posts in question at the time included: “The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”
And: “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”
Musk reinstated Trump’s account after taking over X in 2022, but the former president said he would continue posting on his own platform, Truth Social.
