Newly elected President Donald Trump criticized Retired election surveyor J. Ann Selzer And calls for an investigation came after his last pre-election poll showed Vice President Kamala Harris topping Republicans in Iowa — a state she ultimately won.
Trump criticized Selzer and the now-derided Des Moines Register/MediaCom Iowa poll just hours after she announced she was withdrawing from the election poll.
His last poll indicated Trump would lose to Harris in Iowa by three points, but the future 47th president won the red state by a massive 13 points on his way to recapturing the presidency.
“A completely fraudulent survey that created a lot of mistrust and uncertainty at a very crucial time. She knew exactly what she was doing,” he wrote on Truth Social Sunday evening
“Thank you to the great people of Iowa for giving me such a record-breaking vote despite potential election fraud by Ann Selzer and the now discredited ‘newspaper’ for which she works.
“An investigation is absolutely necessary!”
It’s not clear what type of investigation Trump meant.
Steven Cheung, Incoming Communications Director Under Trump, it also claimed that Selzer “discredited himself during the final days of the campaign in a blatant effort to misinform the public for the benefit of Kamala Harris.”
Selzer said his exit had been in the works for more than a year and he planned to move on to “other ventures and opportunities.” Earlier in an op-ed on Sunday In the Des Moines Register.
“Would I prefer to make this announcement after the final voting in line with the election day results? Of course,” she said of the Nov. 1 erroneous vote. “It’s ironic that it’s quite the opposite.”
In a postmortem of the Agnipariksha survey, he said he found “nothing to expose omissions”, but speculated that respondents may have lied or changed their opinions after polling.
“My honesty means a lot to me,” he wrote. “Those who have questioned it probably have no words to stop it.”
Carol Hunter, executive editor of the Des Moines Register Added in a separate note To readers, “To date, no potential culprit has emerged to explain the widening disparity.”
Selzer’s polling showed Harris winning the state, which was featured on the newspaper’s front page, causing excitement among Democrats who believed the veep was well-positioned to unseat Trump.
Selzer leads the polling and public affairs firm Selzer & Company and has been conducting the Des Moines Register’s Iowa Poll for nearly 40 years.
