President-elect Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he has selected his longtime friend and fellow real estate developer Steve Witkoff as his special envoy to the Middle East.
“Steve is a highly respected leader in business and philanthropy who has made every project and community with which he is involved stronger and more prosperous. “Steve will be an unwavering voice for peace and will make us all proud,” Trump said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, the president-elect confirmed that he has selected Representative Michael Waltz (R-Fla.) for the post of national security adviser and has nominated former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee to be ambassador to Israel.
Witkoff was playing golf with Trump at his namesake West Palm Beach, Florida club on the afternoon of September 15, when an assassination attempt against the 45th president was foiled by a Secret Service agent on advance patrol.
“I feel lucky that I was there because I got to see how he had to live his daily life — two assassination attempts in the last two months,” Witkoff said during the X Spaces event the day after the incident.
He said, “He is as courageous a man as I have ever seen.” “He cared about his friends first and foremost. He first asked about his friends. And it was inspiring to see that.”
“She’s resilient, she’s tenacious – who wouldn’t want those qualities in a leader? He is a born leader.”
