Two New York State Police troopers in two patrol cars were hit by a drunk driver – while they were investigating another drunken driving incident.
Just before midnight Friday, troopers were investigating a 2018 GMC Arcadia that struck a Department of Transportation light tower in a work zone. According to a release,
The troopers were in their patrol cars near the Babylon exit on the Southern State Parkway eastbound when a parked car was struck from behind by a gray 2004 Toyota Rav 4.
That first car was then driven into another patrol car parked in front of it.
The soldiers rushed to aid the civilians involved in the accident, but later realized that they had suffered minor injuries.
All parties involved were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.
Jayakaran Ramrukam, 73, has been charged with driving under the influence.
Jared Robinson, 32, who caused the initial disturbance, was also found to be driving under the influence, although it is unclear what charges he was charged with.
