Tyrese referred to reports that he had lost film roles to actor Terrence Howard in the past due to racism.
On the latest episode of the “Club Shay Shay” podcast, Shannon Sharpe asked her about past comments she made about the Empire star.
Tyrese said in 2021, “Terrence Howard has no idea how many roles I was gonna book, and they went with him because he's a light-skinned black man with green eyes.”
Both actors have worked together on several projects in the past.
Tyrese laughed off his comments when pressed by Sharpe.
“There's some controversy here. It's a misunderstanding. It's the algorithm, Shannon,” Tyrese joked.
“I never said that. You twisted my words. I have no problem with the white man. I'm not giving any explanation because I'm not talking about the black man, and I don't want my words to be twisted or misunderstood.”
Tyrese added, “The guy never took a single role away from me. I specifically said that long before it was cool to be blue-black in Hollywood, everybody else with light skin or on the spectrum had more opportunities than us. I never said he took a specific role away from me. He never said that about Tyrese or Terrence.”
