Heartbroken UnitedHealthcare employees pay tribute to 50-year-old CEO Brian Thompson A masked gunman shot outside a Manhattan hotel Early Wednesday morning.
Thompson, known only as “BT” among his colleagues, appeared to be universally admired by his staff and colleagues. A 20-year company veteran, he was head of UnitedHealth’s global employer, individual, specialty and government benefit businesses.
Florida-based UnitedHealth employee Betucci Galeno said the top executive was “truly a remarkable individual” who was “very polite, kind, cheerful and full of life.”
“He had a way of making everyone feel valued and his positivity was infectious,” Galeano wrote on his Facebook page.
“This is an extremely sad moment for me and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. RIP my friend, you will be missed.”
Medical coder Victoria Clair of Pulaski, Wisconsin, said that “a bright light was extinguished today” with Thompson’s murder.
“Beatty was always fighting for employees and members, making sure everyone understood the importance of compassion and appreciation,” he wrote. “Rest in peace, BT, you will be missed.”
Co-worker Kelly Kamish, a UnitedHealth project manager, praised Thompson as “a great leader and an even better person.”
“My heart breaks for his family, friends and coworkers,” he said. “We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to know him and work with him.”
Meanwhile, Monica Moore of Roanoke, Virginia, expressed her “deepest condolences to the family of our UHC CEO, Brian Thompson.”
“He was a very polite man when we met and he will be truly missed,” she said. “Okay relax, BT!”
Antonio Toft, vice president of human resources and diversity at UnitedHealthcare, wrote on linkedin Thompson was not only a remarkable leader, but also “a dear friend and mentor to many of us.”
“This devastating news has rocked my body, and undoubtedly our entire community, leaving us with many unanswered questions,” Toft wrote in a post on the networking website.
He said, “As we go through these difficult times, let us remember his incredible contributions and the positive impact he had on our lives.”
