It’s been more than 50 years since Van Morrison launched his music career in glorious fashion with a song that would go on to define his life’s work. “Brown Eyed Girl” served as his first proper single, and also his breakout smash, which introduced him to millions.
Decades after it was first released, that tune is still affecting audiences around the world. “Brown Eyed Girl” even manages to reach a new high point on one chart it’s been living on for months, as fans in one nation are still loving pressing play on the classic.
“Brown Eyed Girl” lifts on this week’s Official Streaming chart, the U.K.-based ranking of the most-streamed tracks in that country. The single pushes from No. 76 to No. 67 on the tally, which is a new high point for the cut.
Morrison has produced many hits throughout his career, but none have managed the staying power of “Brown Eyed Girl.” The track has landed on a number of charts in the U.K., though it’s never become a high-rising smash, like in the U.S., despite its widespread popularity.
The standard has pushed furthest on the Official Singles Downloads chart, where it peaked at No. 59. It stalled just one rung lower on the main songs tally in the U.K. The same cut also climbed to No. 84 on the Singles Sales list, where it spent just one frame.
As “Brown Eyed Girl” surges, Morrison fills a pair of spaces on two other tallies. On the Official Albums Sales chart, Live at Orangefield tumbles from No. 10 to No. 65. At the same time, Astral Weeks reappears on the list at No. 96.
Those two efforts can also simultaneously be found on another ranking. Live at Orangefield is down to No. 58 on the Official Physical Albums roster after debuting at No. 12 last frame. Astral Weeks likewise rebounds onto the same chart, where it now sits at No. 86.
