Wild surveillance video captured the moment American Airlines plane A cargo container was rammed into its engine – completely tearing it to pieces.
The story was captured on camera just moments after a flight from London landed at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport last Thursday. ABC7 reported,
According to a CCTV clip circulated on social media, the plane was stopped on the road as a cargo driver was pulling a train of four containers.
The video shows that as soon as the cargo passed near the plane’s engine, three containers immediately flew away and fell rapidly towards the plane.
One of the containers hit the engine, sending pieces of debris flying into the air.
The other two were thrown further down the tarmac.
Later photographs showed pieces of steel scrap still stuck in the engine as the crew inspected the damage.
No one was injured but the Federal Aviation Administration is still investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, a luggage container also hit Jet Blue at Chicago airport last Tuesday, leaving a large dent in the plane’s engine cover.
The incident came to light when the plane was boarding the gate after landing from Boston.
