Video shows boy, 12, save mom’s life after she drove into Texas pond

Heart-pounding footage shows the moment a heroic 12-year-old boy saved his mother’s life after she drove her car into a deep Texas pond while suffering a medical episode.

“She’s having a seizure! She’s stuck! She’s in the water, help her!” a sobbing and soaking-wet Dwight Winbush desperately told West Orange cops, pointing toward the submerged car.

Jonquetta Winbush had been driving through the southeastern city in late July when she suffered a seizure, Assistant Police Chief Jessie Romero said Wednesday.

She passed out behind the wheel — but her foot was planted on the gas pedal, sending her and her two children into the pond.

Dwight and his 16-year-old sister managed to escape the sinking car, but their incapacitated mother was trapped as the car sank deeper and deeper — leaving only the back bumper visible above the water’s surface.

Fortunately, veteran patrolman Charles Cobb was monitoring traffic nearby, and the quick-thinking kids immediately called on him for help.

“Hurry!” little Dwight cried as Cobb put him in the safety of the patrol car.

The bodycam footage shows Cobb sprint toward the submerged vehicle, where two good Samaritans had already begun working to free the trapped woman.

The trio dragged Winbush from the water and Cobb administered chest compressions.

“She was totally unconscious,” Romero said. “He was able to get a pulse back while he had her there on the ground and revive her until EMS got there.”

It’s not clear how long Winbush went without oxygen, but it took three weeks in intensive care for the mother-of-two to begin breathing on her own again.

“She’s still in the hospital, but she’s going to make a full recovery,” Romero said.

Cobb and the two bystanders — Corey Bull and Epifiano Munguia — were honored Tuesday with a life-saving award and letter of commendation for their bravery.
