A Vietnam War veteran was deeply impressed by Donald Trump’s response Attempted murder in Butler, PA, He presented his Purple Heart to the former president on Friday.
The former Marine, identified only as Dwight, appeared on stage midway through the Republican presidential candidate’s town hall event in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to give him a “little token.”
Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), who was moderating the event, read a letter that Dwight wrote to Trump after the assassination attempt, before the veteran personally presented the award to the 45th president. Handed an envelope.
“Dear President Trump, Seeing you and your return during the Butler rally, my wife and I both breathed a sigh of relief and shed a few tears as well,” the letter reads.
“I would be honored if you would accept this small token of what I received as a young Marine in Vietnam,” it continued. “Both my wife and I thought it was appropriate. God bless you, your family, and the United States of America. Sincerely, Dwight.”
After inspecting the envelope, Trump joked that it was something else.
“Wow. Looks like a cheque,” he quipped. “It’s a cheque. It’s cash.”
Luna explains that the envelope contained Dwight’s Purple Heart, which is presented to service members who are wounded or killed as a result of enemy action.
Dwight told Trump, “I can’t think of any other person more deserving of the Purple Heart.”
“You took it. You laid there. You came back. And the first words out of your mouth were ‘fight, fight, fight,'” the Vietnam vet said.
Trump, 78, bled to death after being shot by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks during a campaign rally on July 13 — the former president was shot in the ear, seriously wounding two others and killing a rally goer. It’s done.
A few moments after the firing, a Secret Service sniper killed the criminal.
“You had nothing to counter that with,” Dwight said. “You have courage.”
He said, “It was a minor wound, but it was close to terrible.”
Trump responded, “I’m very fortunate.” “And maybe it wasn’t so lucky. Maybe it’s something else, right? “Maybe there’s something else up there.”
Dwight also reveals that the former President wrote him a “beautiful letter” and gifted him a challenge coin.
“I never expected anything like this from the President of the United States,” he said.
Trump, who will return to Butler on Saturday for the first time since the assassination attempt, called Dwight receiving the Purple Heart “a great honor.”
Earlier in the town hall, Trump rebuked Vice President Kamala Harris for using the word “nasty”. Federal response to Hurricane Helen,
“Kamala should be here,” he told residents of the storm-ravaged state.
“In North Carolina they’re treating you shitty and we don’t like it,” he said. “So, we are going to tell it. And they have to do a lot better because people are not happy.”
“This is Katrina,” Trump said of Hurricane Helen’s impact and the administration’s response. “They’re doing the worst job on the hurricane that any administration has ever done.”
He added, “What a dirty job they’re doing in North Carolina.”
Luna later suggested that the Harris-Biden administration was slow to provide aid to states devastated by Helen because “it’s the red communities that are affected.”
