A Washington, DC woman is pleading for help after she accidentally left a bag containing her husband’s ashes on a streetcar Wednesday.
Cherise Wells reached out to a local DC television station in hopes of spreading awareness of the lost bag that also contains sentimental, and important, paperwork.
“In the bag is my deceased husband’s veteran’s paperwork, death certificate, our marriage license and other important documents. Also in the bag was an urn containing my husband’s ashes,” Wells told FOX 5 in an email.
The District’s Department of Transportation also blasted out a call for help on social media, describing the bag left in a street car as a medium-sized, camouflage-print drawstring bag.
“I feel like an idiot. I thought it was on my shoulder and it wasn’t, and I feel like a piece of me is missing,” she told Fox 5 after leaving it behind near 8th Street in Northwest DC.
“I just want whoever finds it to please, please return it.”
The streetcar runs daily and is free to riders.
Any riders who spot or recover the bag can call the department of transportation at 202-809-5618.
