A compelling drone video is providing a new perspective on the incredible power of a volcano located in Iceland, which has erupted six times since late last year.
Jeroen van Nieuwenhove captured this video by flying his drone over the volcano's crater on August 28, as thick rivers of molten lava spewed from beneath the Earth's surface.
He posted this video on his Instagram accountwhere he described the flow as “mind-boggling to watch”.
Lava, Northern Lights put on spectacular show
Another incredible video recorded during this latest eruption gave viewers a unique view of the disaster taking place.
This video shared by Marco Di Marco shows the bright green colour of the northern lights shining over the volcano.
While we are getting to see amazing visuals of what is happening in the European island nation, it should not be forgotten that it has severely affected daily life in the seaside town of Grindavik.
Almost a year ago, thousands of residents of Grindavik were evacuated after thousands of earthquakes rocked the area, raising fears of an imminent eruption of the Sundnukur volcano.
Being located on the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates, the Nordic island nation is no stranger to volcanic activity.
Iceland has about 130 volcanic mountains, many of which are considered dormant.
