Passengers on a luxury cruise are stranded in Belfast as their ship undergoes urgent and unexpected repairs.
With Villa V Odyssey port in Northern Ireland, cruisegoers have plenty of time to fall in love with the capital city – and each other.
Angela Harsanyi and Gian Peroni met four months ago in Belfast while embarking on a 425-destination, three-year cruise — and this week they announced their engagement.
Harsanyi, 53, of Colorado, and Peroni, 62, of Canada, discovered that after being forced to stay in local hotels in the “luxurious” city, they discovered that they were “made for each other.”
“About six weeks ago, we started walking back and forth to the ship together every day,” Harsanyi said. Guardian,
“It was about an hour’s walk back and forth from there every day. And through that, we really started to discover how similar we were and how much we really enjoyed each other’s company. And we discovered that an hour’s walk wasn’t long enough… We discovered that we definitely had a lot in common, and we wanted to be more than friends.”
Now, the pair have matching tattoos and plan to get married onboard in April when the ship sails between the Panama Canal and Peroni’s former home of Costa Rica.
The ship’s captain will marry the new couple as part of a “huge wedding”.
People on the cruise either rent or buy their villas, which range in price from about $120,600 to $348,300.
Harsanya bought her cruise residence on the ship with her sister Lisa, who will be joining her in the coming months – but Peroni doesn’t mind.
“One thing I love about Gian is that it doesn’t bother him at all. He really respects the fact that this is a girls’ trip, and that’s what I’m here for – and it’s very difficult to find such an open man when he first gets married,” she shared.
She finally got the villa because she had decided about two and a half years ago that she needed a change in her life.
“I decided to change everything about my life,” he said. “It sounds a little crazy to say, but I’m tired of being so comfortable… being in Colorado, of course. There’s no ocean around us, so I wanted the exact opposite of what I wanted.”
Peroni also needed change.
“He was tired of the same routine, in and out every day. He said that when it [cruise information] hit his inbox and he read about it, he immediately knew he was going to do it.
The ship is now expected to sail in the coming weeks, and Peroni and Harsanyi will be able to enjoy their time at sea together – although Harsanyi “absolutely, thoroughly enjoyed Belfast.”
“I think it’s a beautiful, fun, vibrant, resilient community. I have never met friendlier people in my life. The bar is a blast. The culture is amazing. The architectural designs blow my mind.
“The country is fantastic. If there was more sunshine, I would stay here forever.
