House of the Dragon, based on George R.R. Martin’s book, “Fire & Blood,” kicked off its second season on June 16. Following King Aegon II’s coronation and the death of Queen Rhaenyra’s son, the Emmy-nominated show continues with House Targaryen divided in two in the Season 2 premiere.
“In King’s Landing, Aegon II rules from the Iron Throne, supported by Alicent and the Green Council, under the protection of the largest dragon in Westeros. From exile on Dragonstone, Queen Rhaenyra, and her Black Council consider their next move. Civil war looms as both sides seek support from the great houses of Westeros, ultimately amassing armies — and dragons,” HBO’s synopsis for Season 2 reads.
Get ready because the eighth and final episode is slated to be the longest of the series. According to HBO, the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale will be 73 minutes long. Before episode 8, the show’s longest episode was Season 2, Episode 2, “Rhaenyra the Cruel,” which clocked in at 72 minutes.
Although Season 2 is two episodes shorter than the first season, director Clare Kilner told The Hollywood Reporter that it was “Ryan’s [J. Condal] decision to give the second season a good opening and a good ending, and they’re jam-packed with emotional and visually exciting events.”
