The Biden administration suggested there could be no drones in New Jersey — as it tried to ease growing frustration over a lack of response from the feds over the sightings.
“We nor state and local law enforcement officials have been able to confirm any sightings,” White House national security adviser John Kirby told reporters during a briefing Thursday.
“Upon review of available imagery, it appears that many of the reported sightings are indeed manned aircraft being operated lawfully,” he said.
Kirby’s statement comes despite 11 reports of possible drone sightings by the U.S. Army’s Picatinny Arsenal in Morris.
The armory has been a hotbed of alleged drone activity – with many neighbors believing the drones are coming from the military installation.
“At this time we have no evidence that the reported drone sightings pose a threat to national security or public safety, or that there is any foreign involvement,” Kirby said.
Kirby said the sightings did nothing more than “highlight the gap in authority”, and recommended Congress pass legislation to expand counter-drone authority.
