Museum Director Scott Rothkopf said, “Since its founding, the Whitney has been committed to supporting young and innovative artists, and now we’re supporting younger audiences as well by removing the financial barriers that most impact this group.” Expect to do.”
Currently, tickets cost $30 for adults.
The museum’s concept, featuring works by 20th and 21st century artists, includes free admission for all on Friday nights from 5 to 10 pm and free admission on the second Sunday of each month.
According to the Whitney, no charge on Fridays alone, which began last January, resulted in an increase in the number of young people in the galleries.
The average age declined by a decade and more than half of guests said they were visiting for the first time.
The two-weekend initiative has brought in nearly 200,000 art lovers and newcomers at no cost.
“The launch of our first two free admission programs has had such an incredible impact on our visitors that we wanted to go even further to make the Whitney one of the most accessible major museums in America,” Rothkopf said.
“You can feel the amazing energy in the galleries on empty days, and I couldn’t be more excited to see it grow.”
