Born Again’ And ‘Thunderbolts’ Trailers?

Social media has been flush with first looks at Daredevil: Born Again and Thunderbolts trailers which premiered at D23.

Unfortunately, they are literal looks at the premieres at D23, which means bootleg footage of induvial screenshots and blurry, phone-captured, barely audible versions of both trailers that eventually went online.

The situation here is just baffling as to why Disney has not officially released these trailers well after their D23 debut, and they’re not even bothering to copyright claim half the screenshots or bootleg trailers, which have flown around Twitter and TikTok racking up millions of views.

It is at least somewhat acceptable as to why Disney may want to create hype at its D23 event specifically with a live crowd reaction to a trailer debut. But then to not release those officially and to allow those long-awaited first looks to just stumble around in bootleg form for almost a week is ridiculous.

Daredevil: Born Again is easily the most-awaited Disney Plus show by far right now, and fans have only gotten crumbs about its release. The lengthy trailer featuring the likes of Matt, Kingpin, The Punisher and new characters like White Tiger and Muse looks good. But like, not visually good because it’s a terrible bootleg.

As for Thunderbolts, that’s a movie that really needs to start ramping up promotion as a film full of somewhat minor characters in the grand scheme of the MCU is going to be a tough sell for general audiences at the box office. Again, from what we can see, the trailer seems good, but the version going around is barely audible and what looks to be a cool fight scene is reduced to a blurry, hard-to-follow mess.

Disney has done this plenty of times with Marvel and Star Wars projects, but it’s deeply annoying whenever this happens, and somehow they’re being beaten out in the news cycle as of yesterday by the release of the Kraven trailer, of all things.

I’m not even convinced doing first-look trailers at live events even makes much sense at all given that I don’t see the point in giving 1,000 people an “exclusive” look that will be online as a bootleg within ten minutes. But after that happens, the official trailers should be released immediately and it makes no sense at all that they aren’t. This needs to change.
