“Yellowstone” actor Ian Bohan has opened up about Kevin Costner’s shock exit from the hit series, saying the cast and crew have lost their “quarterback.”
Costner, 69, played John Dutton on the Paramount Network show, which last appeared in Part 1 of Season 5 in 2022.
The two-time Oscar winner announced he would not return to “Yellowstone” in June amid rumors of a feud with producer Taylor Sheridan.
“I will use the analogy of a football team. If your quarterback gets hurt and has to come out of the game, you’ve got to play,” Bohen, 48, said. told us weekly At the CMA Awards on Wednesday.
“So you have to find another way to run the ball or throw the ball or just do different things because you can’t leave. So that’s what happened. “We lost our quarterback and we still have to play the game.”
“There’s a lot of other people and families and there’s a whole world around it and the stadium and everybody’s got to go to work,” said Bohen, who plays Ryan on the hit Paramount series.
“So what are you going to do? Well, you’ll have to find out. So that’s what we do. We found a way to find out.
The ranch drama returned for the second half of the season earlier this month and killed off Costner’s character — prompting strong reactions from loyal fans.
“You get to a certain level of comfort and understanding and when that’s changed, it’s a bit of a roller coaster,” Bohn added. “But like anything, you just put your helmet on and you say, ‘I’ve got to go catch the next pass.’ So you can’t really pay too much attention to it.”
Costner’s character is ultimately killed off after John is fatally shot by a hitman, making the shooting look like a suicide. Fans later learned that his son Jamie’s (Wes Bentley) girlfriend had plotted his murder.
Costner lamented Dutton’s death on November 11, just hours after the episode aired.
“This is the moment of the oath to God. I swear to God,” he said on SiriusXM “The Michael Smarkonish Program.”
“I mean, I’m seeing ads with my face on them everywhere and I’m thinking, ‘Gee, I’m not in them.’ I’m not in this season. But I didn’t realize it was yesterday, ‘It was played last night?’ And I said, ‘Hmm, okay.’ So no, I actually found out about it this morning.
“I did not see it. I heard it’s suicide. That doesn’t make me rush to go see it,” he said.
