,yellowstoneStar Kelly Reilly has attracted a strong fan base by hit westerns and stoked chaos in Hollywood.
Reilly shared his thoughts on the cultural impact and appeal of “Yellowstone” since its debut in 2018.
“I don’t participate in the noise in any way. I stay away from it. The only safe place for me is work – and then home with my husband. So boring,'” Reilly told Town & Country magazine.
He added, “It could become a cyclone of bullies and fakery, and I know I wouldn’t get my due in there.”
Before landing the role of Beth Dutton, the strong and empowered daughter of John Dutton, Reilly was packing up her life in New York City and moving to the English countryside with her husband Kyle Baugher in 2017.
Reilly said, “I have always loved my job, but business can sometimes present challenges I didn’t think I was cut out for.” “I just wanted to go back to theater and do two or three plays a year, and live in peace. It didn’t feel like another award. It felt like a choice, a life I wanted to have.”
Then, Reilly was sent the script for ‘Yellowstone’.
“I remember reading it when I was packing up my apartment and thinking, oh, s—. It was like a bit of a challenge. The challenge of it piqued my interest,” she said.
Reilly had a call with the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, and was immediately given the role.
“I didn’t even audition,” he recalled. “Then I was like, ‘F—, I didn’t audition.’ I was nervous, because I didn’t know how I was going to do it. And it took me a minute to find it.
Playing such a strong role never worried Reilly, her focus was on trying to portray Beth’s complexities with the world.
“It’s not just about playing strong, capable women,” Reilly said. “This thing is missing. Male characters can be dirty, but they can still be heroic. Full spectrum. And I think it’s brave to embrace the shadow. How can you be an honest person if you don’t own some of your darkness?”
When it comes to continuing to play Beth Dutton, Reilly has mixed feelings about laying the character to rest and continuing the “Yellowstone” story without Kevin Costner.
“I loved this season. There were actually a few different areas to explore, so I didn’t stick with it. I’m happy to put it back in its locked box,” he said.
In August, bombshell reports surfaced that “Yellowstone” would not end after season five and would run for a sixth season.
As Deadline reports, negotiations are currently underway for a sixth season of the Paramount show. Sources told the outlet that no deal has been made, but “Yellowstone” will likely continue with Cole Hauser and Reilly at the helm.
“I’m definitely interested in Beth, and who she is after some things happen,” Reilly told Town & Country.
“Who is he in peace? As an actor you’re like, ‘Ooh, let me do that,'” Reilly continued. “Wouldn’t it be fun to see Beth go to therapy?”
