YouTube has introduced a comprehensive set of tools to help worried parents Keep a better eye on your child's online activity,
Conscious parents will now be able to link their kids' accounts to their children's accounts, allowing them to keep an eye on everything from video uploads to subscriptions and comments.
“As your teen grows, their interests may expand,” the social media site's new guidelines, released in time for the new school year, say.
“YouTube's new supervision option helps you have open conversations with your teen when they first start creating and sharing things on YouTube,” the guidelines say.
For younger teens, parents can now set filters to ensure they only see age-appropriate content.
Younger children can also surf on the recently launched “YouTube Kids” app, which promises a “safer and simpler experience.”
And, even during times when parents aren't literally watching back, they'll still be able to control viewing habits.
For those aged 13-17, a “take a break” notification can be set every hour – as well as a bedtime reminder at 10pm
Parents also have access to an autoplay kill switch, which keeps kids from getting stuck in an endless video loop.
Anyone aged 17 or under will have more difficulty accessing so-called “problematic” content – including videos “that display social aggression and intimidation”.
