Goodbye, ghosts.
Dermot Mulroney is breaking his silence on this His “Scream” co-star Melissa Barrera And Jenna Ortega is exiting the franchise.
“I’m not surprised they didn’t come back,” Mulroney, 61, told The Post exclusively while promoting her latest project, “Depravity.”
Barrera, 34, was fired from horror movie films Because of his social media posts about the Israel-Hamas war.
“I also come from a colonized country,” she wrote next to the Mexican flag logo in October 2023. “Palestine will be free. They tried to bury us, they didn’t know we were the seed. At the end of the day, I’d rather be excluded because of the people I include, not because of the people I I take it out.”
The following month, it was reported that 22-year-old Ortega kicked out of ‘Scream VII’ Due to scheduling conflicts with Netflix’s “Wednesday” season 2.
The actors played sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter, respectively. In “Scream” (2022) and “Scream VI” (2023).
In November 2023, “Scream 7” Director Christopher Landon responded briefly Writing in the casting shakeup via X: “Everything sucks. Stop yelling. It was not my decision.” Lead star Neve Campbell opted out of the 2023 film over salary negotiations, but will return for the next installment.
“‘Scream’ has had a lot of ups and downs since ‘Scream VII’ and how the company treated Melissa Barrera, and then the other side is Nev’s return to her character Sidney Prescott,” Mulroney told the Post.
“So those ‘Scream’ people who have driven everything — not just over the last few years, but for the last 25 years with this story. I’m so grateful to have been a part of it. It’s more powerful than I thought.” It’s what binds families together. The horror viewer-ship fan base is so powerful that I know more from being a part of ‘Scream.’
The ‘Anyone But You’ actor played Detective Bailey in ‘Scream VI’. Most recently, he starred in “Depravity”, directed by Paul Tamasy, where three residents suspect that their reclusive neighbor (Mulroney) is a serial killer.
,[This] It was such a challenge. Of course, there is almost no dialogue, and I got it all non-verbally and through the tools that cinema uses, the framing and lighting and the music and that vibe,” Mulroney explained. “I am very happy to be a part of it. …The filming days weren’t that long for me. We spent an incredible amount of time filming this in this wild studio in this wild building in Bangkok, Thailand. So it was an incredibly memorable experience for me, especially with the people.”
“I think the chances of me getting these roles were less until recently. So whatever is ticked on the graph, I am sure my age must have done it,” he adds. “‘Scream 6’, of course, playing Detective Bailey has become quite iconic.”
“I always try to choose those roles because maybe they are not what I feel like in real life. It’s half fun, half time.”
The ‘Family Stone’ actor praised director Paul Tamasy.
“Even that long coat. Of course, I was involved in choosing which one was most suitable and best for the character, but the haircut was written into the script,” he said about his character’s attire. This was director Paul’s concept from the beginning. So I’d love to take credit for that amazing idea of giving this really hard edged image, just like the way lighting affects a person with an extreme haircut. …It’s not often that I get photographed like this. So it really gives a great edge to the film and gives everything to cinema about how this character was introduced and how it was created without saying a word. Just the other characters’ point of view about him and what was going on in the hall.”
Mulroney can now also be seen in “Chicago Fire.” The star joined the NBC procedural drama as Chief Dom Pascal for season 13. Filming in the Windy City was a homecoming for the actor, who worked at the same location in 1997’s “My Best Friend’s Wedding.”
“I’m looking at the locations where we filmed some of those iconic scenes,” he told The Post of the rom-com, which also starred Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz. “They still have those same boats floating under the bridge, pointing to the architecture. This is a very beautiful city. i used to work [there] On ‘Shameless’ and so the city has been really very kind to me and now to be back for ‘Chicago Fire’ is amazing. The entire Chicago One ensemble of the show is amazing. I have friends at each of those shows that I already knew, so it’s really like coming home to Chicago. I’m thrilled I got this job.”
