The Factor is best suited for individuals or small families, as the meals are all single portions. Our review of Factor:
professional:
- Dietitian designed recipes
- Over 35 meals, over 60 add-ons, including snacks and smoothies
- Works for a variety of dietary needs including vegans, keto and those looking to add more protein to their diet
- It only takes 2 minutes to heat food in the microwave
- A more sustainable option
Shortcoming:
- Smaller portions than some traditional meal kits
- Not suitable for large families
I’ve ordered a series of meals from Factor’s over the past four years and counting, selecting from their rotating menu of options. Wanting to try everything, I’ve chosen keto labeled meals like Indian Butter Chicken with Cilantro Lime Cauliflower Rice, a vegan dish of Vegetable Ratatouille with Mascarpone Polenta, a vegan selection of Three Bean Vegan Chili with Cornbread Casserole and A more premium option with peppercorn-spiced filet mignon with tofu-based crema and brown butter potato mash, broccolini and peppers.
This fall, I tried even more meals and included shakes and smoothies:
For all meals, the only packaging is a slip-off sleeve and a plastic-covered, microwavable tray that needs to be opened to let out steam. I loved that the sleeve had all the instructions for heating as well as a color-coded label to indicate whether the food was meat-based, fish-based, or vegetable-based. This made it easier to know what I was taking from the fridge. Black-Label are premium dishes, so I made sure to save them for a special solo dinner.
Once cooked, I noticed that somehow even the fresh shrimp and red meat dishes didn’t dry out, a problem I often have in normal cooking. I was also pleasantly surprised by the spices used in each dish, there was no need to add any salt or pepper.
I will mention that these meals served me best as a lunch option, with smaller portions than what I would typically want for dinner. I was able to easily bring them into the office and use our break room to warm up and eat.
,Comment: The meat will be cooked medium to well done, but that’s understandable since it’s technically second cooked, and I found the meat still tender.)
Compared to other meal kits, Factor definitely fares better in terms of taste, price, and ease of ordering. However, I admit it’s hard to compare it to kits where you actually need to slice and dice, because of the factor meals are ready as soon as they arrive at your door.
final call
Factor is the best food delivery service for people who love nutritious, delicious food that can be prepared in two minutes without any preparation or cleanup. They’re designed for the person on the go and can be perfect for lunch or a quick dinner.
I personally would love to always have some of these meals on hand for the work week, as well as a fridge full of smoothies and shakes for lunch.

FAQ: What to look for when choosing a meal kit
Diet: Pay attention to the dietary options each service offers, from vegetarian and vegan to keto and paleo. Meal kit delivery services that are transparent about ingredients and sourcing are preferable, as they can provide an indication of the quality of the food.
household size: Count the number of people in your family and then calculate how much they eat to calculate how much is needed to feed everyone. Some kits have large portions, while others are single-serving only.
Budget: There is a wide range of prices for meal kits and services, with the average cost between $8-$14 per serving. Some offer free shipping, making them more affordable in the long run, while others have a minimum cost. Special meal kit services or health-related plans generally cost more, especially if organic produce or meat is used.
Time: In theory, meal kits are meant to save people time. When choosing the best meal kit for you, think about how much time you want to cook each night. Some require 30 or more minutes to cook, not including cleanup. Others are microwavable and thus do not require cleanup time. The latter may be better for those with busy lifestyles, while those who enjoy cooking may prefer kits that require more effort but can still save them a trip to the grocery store.
