Podcaster Joe Rogan on Thursday accused TV personality Oprah Winfrey and former first lady Michelle Obama of blatant hypocrisy in their DNC speeches.
Oprah criticized former President Trump at the conference, saying that maintaining democracy “requires standing up to the bullies of life” and describing how she has seen “racism and sexism and income inequality and division” and sometimes been a victim of it.
Shortly after, the Trump campaign posted a thank-you letter Winfrey wrote in 2000 that suggested he would be a good president. “Too bad we're not running,” Winfrey wrote. “What a team!”
Similarly, the former First Lady explained how her mother showed her “the meaning of hard work, humility, and modesty,” adding, “She and my father did not aspire to be rich. In fact, they were suspicious of those who took more than they needed. They understood that there wasn't enough for their children if everyone around us was drowning.”
But on Thursday, when discussing how prominent public figures had turned against Trump in recent years, Rogan joked about how both of those women have become very wealthy in their own right.
“How about Oprah?” Rogan said. “Oprah was talking about her and Trump running together, and now she’s talking to the DNC about being a threat to democracy and she’s talking about income inequality, like, ‘Hey lady… you’re so rich.’ I was like, ‘How is that equal?'”
The podcaster then added, “And when Michelle Obama was saying, you know, I think she was saying that her mother or grandmother was always suspicious of people who took more than they needed, like, you have so much money. This is so crazy. You did this on a civil servant's salary which is crazy.”
Rogen wasn't the only public figure to highlight Oprah's hypocrisy. The major media giant's condemnation of income inequality rang hollow to those who pointed to her current massive net worth, which Forbes estimates at $3 billion.
Conservative radio host Dana Loesch wrote, “It's a little odd for Oprah, with her Hawaiian estate and multiple homes, expensive clothing, frequent luxury vacations, etc., to talk about income inequality.”
Meanwhile, the Trump War Room, the official account of former President Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, shared a clip of Michelle Obama's speech and commented, “Michelle Obama says her parents were 'suspicious of people who took more than they needed.' She has a net worth of $70 million and lives in a mansion in Martha's Vineyard.”
