A New York state trooper was shot in the leg during a traffic stop on the Long Island Parkway Wednesday night, sources and officials said.
According to state police and sources, the shooting occurred near Exit 17 on the Southern State Parkway at about 11:30 p.m.
According to sources, the trooper pulled over a black Dodge Charger and while stopping the car, he was shot by a suspect sitting in the vehicle.
The injured trooper was taken to Nassau County University Medical Center in stable condition.
Sources said the driver of the Charger fled the spot and police were searching for the vehicle in the early hours of Thursday.
